There's a faint rumbling, and a green shoot pokes up through the soil, growing and growing until it's the height of your hip. It's a baby tree!
+ TREE (REGULAR)
A hole opens up in the trunk, and spits out a shiny dark seed about three inches long. The hole closes up again instantly.
+ TREE (BURNED)
A hole opens up in the trunk, and spits out a centipede about three inches long. The hole closes up again instantly.
+ BROKEN STATUES
Lines of red fire run up from the feet on the pedestal, building and weaving until they've built an image of a young woman with her arms outstretched and a pleading expression on her face. She's in a heavy dress, with long straight hair. She's very pretty, and looks a little like Firebird.
+ SERPENT STATUE (PEDESTAL ONLY)
It grows stone wings.
+ SERPENT STATUE (FANGLESS)
Colour flushes up the statue's coils: bands of red and gold. It's clearly coming to life...!
Or not. It topples limply off the pedestal as soon as the transformation is complete. It's dead.
+ SERPENT STATUE (FANGED)
Colour flushes up the statue's coils: bands of red and gold. It's clearly coming to life...! It starts to hiss and writhe, the huge head turning in your direction.
(YOU CAN FIGHT THE SNAKE BUT NOTHING YOU DO SEEMS TO HURT IT AND IT JUST HEADBUTTS YOU AND IF YOU BOLT IT WILL LET YOU GO AND YOU GO BACK TO THE CENTRAL ROOM IN LIKE TWO COMMENTS ANYWAY)
+ FANG
Writing begins to carve itself into the copper as you watch.
HE RODE FORTH FROM HIS HOME
+ FOX
The fox immediately crumbles into a pile of white ash, leaving the lump of meat behind.
+ MEAT
Maggots begin to writhe out of it.
+ STONE SHARD AFTER YOU SQUISHED THE MEAT
You have a scrap of human flesh.
+ STATUE EYE
The stone grows as warm as living flesh. The eye is now a real eye--a human eye in a chunk of stone. The pupil is stormcloud grey.
For a few seconds you hear a chorus of voices, singing. They sound sweet but not entirely human, and you can't understand the words.
+ ANYWHERE IN THE TRACKLESS FOREST
There is a brilliant flash. You find yourself back in the central room. Your head hurts.
