Swift is also very conscious of the fact that the teams are part of the system created by the Personae, the same system keeping them here, and thus are either arbitrary or orchestrated by beings he doesn't trust. He's still working out the details of the overall system, what purpose the teams and the knights and so on serve in the Personae's goal of gaining power for their world in large part because I don't play him enough, whup, but his big takeaway so far has been that it's silly to invest in "teams" as something more than the practical, because those teams mwere invented by the same people who kidnapped you in the first place!

So consciously, he views Jasper (and the other teams, but those aren't as relevant to him) as a unit that works together in the games and to provide for the team's basic needs (like food, etc.)--people who are on the same "side" and can be trusted to look out for each other's interests, but not necessarily anything else. He is a lot more willing to build a working relationship with his teammates, more inclined to say what's on his mind and to be open about his thoughts and goals; Swift's interactions with basically everyone else up until the latest game have been heavily facaded, and he has trouble viewing people off-team as anything besides enemies, curiosities, or sources of information. Which doesn't mean he doesn't hide things from his teammates! Like his starter--he still isn't talking about that in much detail, and I'm not sure he ever will. But for the most part, Jasper gets the "real" Swift, and has from the first moment Erika bumped into him.

As far as how he views the team . . . he likes them well enough, "even" Mitsuki and Eve and the pigeon, and mostly thinks of them as competent and clever. (The exceptions being Mitsuki, Saya--though he doesn't mind in her case, and she tries hard and does things for the team--and possibly Eve, although he sort of suspects she's more sensible beneath the silly exterior.) He can work with them as equals, again with aforementioned exceptions, and that's how he views Jasper, for the most part--working together in common, on the same footing, as they did in Maleficent's game. There might be followers in Jasper, but there aren't really leaders. He'll pitch in wherever he sees a need or a void, both in and out of the games, and he doesn't imagine himself in a defined role, but he is making note of some things--Saya's general need to be looked after, Azure's passivity which puts him at risk of being steamrollered, Erika's intemperance--and will work to compensate for those. Consciously, that's as far as he's willing to go. Jasper is sensible, and Jasper cooperates well, and that's a good thing, but he won't go beyond that when describing it to outsiders, and he views team bonding as kind of silly on the whole.

Subconsciously . . . ha ha ha. Jay's canonical GREATEST WISH is for a family--unconditional love, a place to belong--and while that's informed by certain aspects of his backstory, I view it as pretty intrinsic to his character. So Swift, underneath the logic and masks and tsundeflection, really, honestly likes people, and he gets attached very easily. (This is canon.) And he's already put up a lot fewer walls around Jasper, as I said! He isn't someone who's very conscious of his own feelings, so he hasn't been guarding himself emotionally, and as a result Jasper is kind of . . . creeping in there. Some of them more than others (coughSayacough), but he has a level of affection for them all. He would really like them to care about each other--he wants the team to be something warm, in its own way, that all of them can come back to. But he's not ready to admit that to himself, much less anyone else.

god that was long. Um. What's been the most fun thing about playing Eve so far? How about the hardest?
