[MEMORY # 35 (SIGNIFICANT NEGATIVE)]
* Kratos fleeing Cruxis with Anna.
Won in Game 85: Noble roles for Mother.
I am a bit hazy on the details of this but it goes roughly like so: after nearly four thousand years Mithos was pretty crazy and dead on the inside and Kratos was pretty much the only person left who he trusted to stand by him, since Kratos was one of his original companions, his swordmaster and mentor, and he did still love him. He was also intensely, irrationally possessive of him at this point (DON'T LEAVE ME MY PEOPLE CAN'T LEAVE ME), but he was sure Kratos would stay with him forever because it was Kratos, he who was perpetually stuck in a rut of his own inaction.
Except. One of Mithos's Cardinals, Kvar, was working on something huge and important called the Angelus Project, which iirc was to develop an even more enhanced sort of Exsphere using subjects picked from a human ranch. Kratos, during an inspection of the project or whatever, met an Angelus Project test subject, 'host body A012' -- Anna, Lloyd's mother. We don't know anything about Anna but she must have been fucking amazing because she sure pulled Kratos out of that centuries-long inaction rut and made him realize that HEY! Human torture camps and systematic global suffering? Not actually cool!
Eventually Kratos ran away with Anna and Kvar was furious because Anna still had the Exsphere that was the possible culmination of the Angelus Project and Mithos was furious because KRATOS HAD LEFT HIM HOW DARE HE THE ONE WHO LURED HIM OFF HAD TO DIE HISS HISS. Etc. etc. timelines get a bit fuzzy but Kratos and Anna and Noishe and baby Lloyd managed to stay free and on the run from Cruxis for two years. Unfortunately one day Cruxis caught up :'D
Sometime during the struggle Anna's Key Crest accessory was torn off and her Exsphere was destabilized! She turned into a berserk monster. She killed the attackers but also rounded on her family; Noishe was injured protecting baby Lloyd and then Noishe and Lloyd both got knocked off a cliff and then Kratos and Anna also fought.
Kratos killed Anna and gave Lloyd and Noishe up for dead and then stood around possibly catatonic with despair on that clifftop until Mithos came to fetch him personally. And then he went back to Cruxis with Mithos because he had lost all hope and Lloyd got raised by a dwarf.
+ Ssssso he killed Lloyd's mom and took back Lloyd's dad for completely selfish reasons, that happened. That happened.
+ Realization that Cruxis and the Desians are one and the same; that he is also responsible for the torture camps and human subjugation by half-elves -- that is, thousands of years of systemized torture and killing to produce Exspheres.
+ Knowledge of the Angelus Project's nature, though that won't ever be directly addressed onscreen because canon is super vague about it and Mithos probably wouldn't even have been that interested if Kratos weren't involved.
+ Knowledge of what Lloyd's mom looks like :'D They never met directly but I'm pretty sure Mithos saw a picture of her to snarl at or something.
+ Knowledge of the 'stone cold asshole who enjoys casually causing other people pain' side of his insanity, which he vaguely knew about but never had to confront so overtly in his memories before.
