ANOTHER HEADCANON MEMORY 8'D ALL THE RATATOSK HEADCANON.

This is a memory of . . . the first half of the process of pacting with Ratatosk, in which Mithos was like PLEASE CAN YOU JOIN US and laid out all the reasons why and Ratatosk crankily waved him off and said hey, kid, you know what? I've never made a pact before and I'm not going to just because you talk pretty and with logic. You'll challenge me to prove yourself? Haha, no, we're not at that stage of our relationship yet either, don't get ahead of yourself. You want to prove yourself and your intentions to me? You are going to prove them in my venue of choice, and my venue of choice is fetch quests.

For context: Mithos's crazy plan to revive the World Tree by harnessing the power of all Summon Spirits would only work if he had the support of the spirit of the Tree, and also . . . while he'd grown up on legends of the Spirits and knew where to find the ones with openly established territories/temples, there were a few who were super elusive and had very specific parameters for Summoning and he didn't have the first clue how he was going to find them.

So Ratatosk made Mithos go on a billion fetch quests and frustrated the shit out of him.

FIND THIS RARE TREE. IT ONLY GROWS IN SUPER HIGH PLACES INACCESSIBLE BY FLIGHT, HAVE FUN CLIMBING MOUNTAINS.

OH YOU FOUND IT? COOL NOW I'M GOING TO GIVE YOU SOME SORT OF CRYPTIC RIDDLE, HAVE FUN FIGURING OUT THAT IT MEANS 'GET A NUT OFF THE TREE AND CARVE IT INTO A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT YOU CAN PLAY.'

I'M BEING UNNECESSARILY OBTUSE? WORK FOR YOUR SUMMON, KID, THE EFFORT IN THIS RELATIONSHIP'S GOTTA GO BOTH WAYS.

THERE'S NO POINT TO THIS? HAHAHA, HOW ARE YOU GOING TO SAVE THE WORLD WITH A DEFEATIST ATTITUDE LIKE THAT? SHUT UP AND DECODE THIS OTHER RIDDLE WHICH WILL GIVE YOU A SPECIFIC LOCATION TO PLAY THE FLUTE IN.

. . . and then at the end of all of it Mithos played the flute and summoned Aska and Luna down together -- the Summon Spirits of Light, and two of the Spirits he'd had no idea how to find on his own. And then he realized that oh my god, Ratatosk took the most cranky indirect back-breaking way ever to let Mithos know he was okay with the plan and willing to make a pact and help, but he was okay with the plan and willing to make a pact and help aaaaa

And then he threw a rock at Ratatosk.

(They threw rocks at each other a lot in this memory actually.)
