[a heart.]
There's a moment of nothing but light and sensation. Someone's looking you over and the scrutiny prickles and burns – it's nearly a physical pain, like fine little hooks digging past your skin, into the very meat of you. I know who you are, it says, and I know what you are, and that you don't have any business here --
“But you do,” says Mithos behind you. He's a tired, steady voice in your ear, a light hand on your shoulder. “I don't know what Dream's thinking, but everyone is welcome here in my heart; just keep in mind it's a real mess right now.”
Your vision clears.

Um...
Can I close the box though?

Re: [past - mind]
"If it's just going to open, why close it?"
Re: [past - mind]
[PULLS ON THOSE ARMS, can I pull you out of the flower for hugs]
Re: [past - mind]
"What . . . ?"

Re: [past - mind]
Jeez... the point to closing it is so that you get a little bit of time when it's not open. And even if it opens again you can close it again... but if you just hide in a flower you won't get anything done, right?
Re: [past - mind]
He's actually flinching under the petting, it's terrible.
Re: [past - mind]
You're a person, right? I'm pretty sure what I just said applies to anyone who has a box of sad in their heart, whether they're a human or a half-elf or a rabbit or anything else. I know you're not allergic to happy.
Re: [past - mind]
"But . . . humans don't even believe half-elves are people. They don't listen to them. They turn them away . . . where can we be happy? What can we do?"
Re: [past - mind]
I'm not sure I have an answer... back where I'm from my family was like that. Something happened a long time ago, and since then nowhere's been safe for us. So... it's really hard. But... I think...
[hmm]
... I think... if you keep trying, and if you stay safe as long as you can... it might take a long time, but... you'll find people who don't care if you're a half-elf, because they like you as a person. And... I think, once you find those people, then you'll be able to be happy...
Re: [past - mind]
But if you don't want to wait for that— and it could take a really long time— you could maybe build your own house in the woods with all your favourite people and put a big fence around it so nobody bugs you.

(Is he going a little transparent?)

Below you, the party's almost to the top of the cliff.

He fades away completely.
Re: [past - mind]
Um—?
[l-looks in the flower, did he teleport back in there]
Re: [past - mind]
You can probably shut the box now.
