There's a moment of nothing but light and sensation. Someone's looking you over and the scrutiny prickles and burns – it's nearly a physical pain, like fine little hooks digging past your skin, into the very meat of you. I know who you are, it says, and I know what you are, and that you don't have any business here --

“But you do,” says Mithos behind you. He's a tired, steady voice in your ear, a light hand on your shoulder. “I don't know what Dream's thinking, but everyone is welcome here in my heart; just keep in mind it's a real mess right now.”

Your vision clears.

"Not quite who you're thinking about, but yeah, kind of—!"

He moves casually out of your way to let you look. The liquid is calm, some of the pillars close enough to touch. You can see silvery words shimmering in the pillars if you look long enough, too, and a white door set into the bottom of the pool between them.

[stepping into the liquid! placing his hand on one of those pillars to steady himself as he approaches the door]

The pillar you touch reads 'Always look at the truths of a situation. Remember that yours isn't the only one.' Something warm and fierce and sure sinks into you from it: a need to listen; a need for balance and perspective; a need to keep control and a calm head; the struggle to understand.

The liquid fills you with a powerful desire, rather than a feeling: I need to atone, I need to move forward, I need to live . . .

You can reach the door easily.
