There's a moment of nothing but light and sensation. Someone's looking you over and the scrutiny prickles and burns – it's nearly a physical pain, like fine little hooks digging past your skin, into the very meat of you. I know who you are, it says, and I know what you are, and that you don't have any business here --

“But you do,” says Mithos behind you. He's a tired, steady voice in your ear, a light hand on your shoulder. “I don't know what Dream's thinking, but everyone is welcome here in my heart; just keep in mind it's a real mess right now.”

Your vision clears.

...I saw Lloyd in your heart. I want to know if there's a 'you' that fulfills the same role as he does.

"His name is Messenger. He's, mm, an external perspective, while still being part of me. The heart's watcher . . .

Would you be asking that question if I hadn't put Lloyd's shape to him?"

If it was any shape but your own, I'd be curious. It seemed like an important role, so giving him another's face is...interesting.

"He's from the time when I couldn't maintain myself without other people."

...I'm sorry. I came all this way here to speak with you and all I've done is ask pointless questions.

"They're not pointless. You're trying to understand, right?"

...That's my goal, but it doesn't do you much good?

"No way! It does plenty of good."

He quirks an eyebrow at you. He does look less tired.

"I can't lie."

If talking about it helps...Can I ask about the first "you" I saw when I arrived?

"Rage, you mean."

I thought so. I was able to seal the box and heal it...what did that accomplish?

"You started off the process of getting him back under control . . . I'm not really sure about the healing, though. That went inside with him; it will make a change."

[nods]

Do you think it was the right thing to do?

"What's the 'right' thing, Selenia . . .? Some people would see making any change to a heart at all as wrong, as interference. Some would say it's fine, as long as the changes were good. Did you think it was the right thing?"

...It should be what you believe is right for yourself.

"I believed it was . . . something that would help. That's a little different.

I'm asking what you believed."

I like to believe that it helps to have damage repaired directly, more than it would to attempt to repair indirectly. However, it can be difficult to tell what something is in someone's heart, and what effects your action has.

...But if I heal something, I'm focusing my energy on repairing someone's wounds and taking away their pain. Even if healing does nothing in this place, that intention should help regardless.

"Healing has a lot of power in this heart. Healing given freely out of the need to help . . . more so. Healing from a human, even more so.

He was a true remnant, a piece of myself from long before Aather. Humans can't use magic. Sis was a healer. You really gave him something to think about."

[...nods.]

I see. Was that the reason he disappeared?

"My various madnesses belong sealed away. For the most part."

...They never go away, do they?

"Sometimes, I can let a little of them go. Very little at a time."
