There's a moment of nothing but light and sensation. Someone's looking you over and the scrutiny prickles and burns – it's nearly a physical pain, like fine little hooks digging past your skin, into the very meat of you. I know who you are, it says, and I know what you are, and that you don't have any business here --

“But you do,” says Mithos behind you. He's a tired, steady voice in your ear, a light hand on your shoulder. “I don't know what Dream's thinking, but everyone is welcome here in my heart; just keep in mind it's a real mess right now.”

Your vision clears.

[huffs a sigh and reaches up to grab the bird out of the branches, you don't belong there]

Wonder if there's a box you go in...

There's no box in sight.

The bird struggles and tries to peck your fingers, but it's soft and you can lift it out of the tree.

[yeah not letting bird get away with that--]

[--o-oh no it's soft]

[p...petting it...]

We still love you too, Mithos. No matter what.

Struggle . . . s . . . s-struggle . . . oh god it's the l-word . . .

[can I pet it into submission even though it's making me cranky, disney princess powers activate]

After a couple of minutes of petting and increasingly weaker struggling, it . . . dissolves in your hands, turning into water, dripping through your fingers onto the roots of your tree.

There's a green leaf lying on the wet ground.

[a little startled at that, but...okay...carefully picking up that leaf, curious]

You're walking down a pebbled path in Beauty's forest, with Knife. Your senses are jangling. You feel hyperaware, and nervous, and very, very aware that she's human. Humans aren't safe. You remember now. You shouldn't let humans get close to you; maybe they don't remember, but they will, and then they'll know what you are and you'll be shut out again. Rejected.

"I dunno," she's telling you. "It's probably a pony. It was kind of dark. It definitely had hooves."

"...we'll find out, huh?" Don't let on that anything's wrong, you tell yourself. Don't --

"Either way, it's a weird looking but possibly cute animal. No doubt you will love it." She reaches out to pat you on the shoulder, grinning, and you tense up a little but let her, putting on a smile. That wasn't too bad a slip, you think -- she's biting her lip.

"Doesn't look like there's anything up here," she says. You've reached an empty clearing.

"That's odd," you say.

"I guess we get to find out what goes here next time. How thrilling."

It's been a long day, and you're tired and a little frustrated, on top of your nerves. You huff. She grins again a bit but shoots you an uneasy look, putting a little more space between you.

"Knife...?"

"You really should just tell me, you know. When I freak you out."

Oh no. "It's not...!"

"-- hey, it's okay. I know about it. I guess it must have been weird when I -- didn't feel like everyone else, or whatever. I didn't really know how to talk to you about it. But if you just tell me, I'll always back off. I'm just handsy."

You stare at her, not knowing what to say -- you're still scared, but this is your friend, and maybe she's human and maybe she's feeling different and nervy for her own reasons too. You could back off here and she'd let you, you know -- and you realize that you're being very, very stupid, and you tackle her.

[small smile at that, o-oh no it's cute]

[also kind of amazing to get more of an idea of what Knife's like in person]

[okay, setting that carefully near the base of his tree for now and now time to check out that wayfinder]

It's a memory of . . . it's a memory of your True Heart, blurred and dreamy at the edges, but still filled with light, and warmth, and love . . .

[oh...that's...trippy]

[just kind of stunned for a moment because...that's what my inner self feels like? w-wow]

[also. gosh. I should tell Mithos some stuff.]

The first one you touch.

Sharp relief -- getting his mana back after losing it for the game -- and then dere dere dere sparkles??? dere.

[leaving the keys and just petting his tree for a moment, then touching the Peridot key out of curiosity]

When you touch the Peridot key, you see an image of yourself. Ranged around you is the rest of the current Peridot -- Emil's an odd blurred mix of his calm green-eyed self and angry red-eyed self.

And behind the seven of you, your booked and your good-enders and those sent home: Fay, Takuto, Twilight Sparkle, Devin, Shadowchild, Oruha, and Lucifer.

[blinking a bit. and just. staying there with his hand on the key for a bit.]

So that's...who was there before me... [also baw Dev] ...thanks for showing me.

"Sure," says Mithos. "It's nice to have more people who remember . . ."

It's also a good thing for your narrator you're not a member of Coral.

You can't see him, though after a second you can feel his chin on your shoulder.

[carefully trying to feel out where he is so he can pet him '^']
