[MEMORIES # 64-69 (TRIV NEU, TRIV NEU, TRIV NEU, TRIV NEU, TRIV NEU, SIG POS]

* Life with Altessa and Tabatha.

Won from Game 151: Kingdoms for Nimue.

Getting dropped off with Altessa the dwarf and Tabatha, the robotic doll who was once a potential vessel for Martel. This covers maybe a couple of weeks' worth of time and does not include periods where Lloyd's party was present.

The content is actually super domestic and benign day-to-day living, chores, etc., though not all is as it should be: Mithos rebuffs Altessa's couple of attempts to question him more deeply about his backstory; Tabatha makes an observation that though Mithos helps often with the cooking, he doesn't eat much (he doesn't!); he spends nights wide awake and bored out of his skull and often sneaks out to take walks around the forest, because while he can manage food he never does figure out how to turn his sleeping function back on.

The underlying emotions in the memory are an intense disdain for Altessa (because Altessa is a runaway from Cruxis) and active hatred with an edge of panic towards Tabatha (because Tabatha is a failed vessel who should have been destroyed, and he can't properly handle seeing someone who looks almost exactly like Martel but isn't Martel.) Externally pretty calm, internally pretty fraught! There are also occasional flashes where he forgets himself and that he's acting, and enjoys living with them a little, but they're squashed pretty quickly.

+ :(?
+ This memory is trivial neutral in canon context, but Tabatha memories are fairly sad ones for Mithos to get in Aather, once he regains endgame: Tabatha is an existence he destroyed who can't be gotten back, because she became part of the Summon Spirit Martel.

* Chasing Raine to the Otherworldly Gate.

Won from Game 153: Edmund's heart.

Colette: …up! …Wake up! Lloyd! Wake up! The Professor’s gone!
Lloyd: Wh…what?!

[Lloyd joins the party outside Altessa's home.]

Lloyd: What are you talking about?
Genis: It seems Raine left a note saying she had something she wanted to investigate and then left.
Tabatha: SHORTLY BEFORE DAWN, I SAW A RHEAIRD HEADED SOUTH. PERHAPS THAT WAS
RAINE.
Regal: South…so in the direction of Altamira…
Zelos: Now that you mention it, Her Highness was acting just a bit strange yesterday. She was going on and on about the Otherworldly Gate.

Presea: What should we do, Lloyd?
Genis: I’m worried about her being by herself…
Lloyd: Let’s go find her. It’s not good for us to be separated right now.
Mithos: Ah…um…will you take me with you?
Genis: What are you talking about? It’s dangerous.
Mithos: I know that, but I’m worried about her. There are monsters all over Tethe’alla right now. This is the first time I’ve met another half-elf besides me, so…I want her to be okay.
Lloyd: All right, come on.

Mithos: Thank you, Lloyd!
Lloyd: Don’t worry about it. Any friend of Genis is a friend of mine.
Mithos: …Okay! Let’s do our best, Genis!
Genis: Mithos…thank you.
Lloyd: Genis, let him ride on your Rheaird.
Genis: Okay!

[Just as the group is about to leave . . .]

Altessa: Wait. This is for Presea…
Lloyd and Presea turns around and faces Altessa.
Lloyd: A Key Crest…
Altessa: …It’s hardly enough to call it an apology, but I went ahead and made one. It will be more reliable than that makeshift one she has now.
Lloyd: Presea. Let’s accept it.
Presea: …O…okay.

[Mithos and Genis probably spend the trip chatting! They arrive at Altamira. This memory slots neatly in here.

Afterwards, Lloyd’s group takes the elevator down to the 1st floor. They come upon two men talking.]

Man 1: Isn’t the Otherworldly Gate going to open tonight?
Man 2: Man, I don’t like thinking about that. It could suck us over into the hellish land of Sylvarant.
Mithos: Lloyd! Did you hear that?
Lloyd: Yeah.

[Lloyd approaches the two men.]

Lloyd: Excuse me. That Otherworldly Gate you were talking about just now, where is it?
Man 1: Who the heck are you?
Mithos: I apologize. We’d like to go see the Otherworldly Gate. Would you be kind enough to tell us where it is?
Man 1: Ah, well, if you’re looking for the Otherworldly Gate, it’s to the east of this city, across the sea.
Colette: Um…are there any landmarks?
Man 2: There are huge rocks all over it. You can’t miss it. But tonight’s a full moon. If the legend is true, then the gate will open and you’ll be sucked into the world of Sylvarant!

Mithos: I wonder if Raine is there.
Lloyd: I don’t know. But it’s the only clue we have. Let’s at least take a look.

[The group leaves Altamira, picks up Regal, and heads to the Otherworldly Gate, arriving at night.]

Lloyd: Professor!
Raine: Everyone!…Why are you all here?
Genis: Why do you think we’re here? We were worried about you!
Mithos: It’s dangerous to come here alone. As a fellow half-elf, I can’t just leave you here by yourself.

Colette: Why did you come to this place?
Raine: …This is where Genis and I were abandoned.
Lloyd: …What are you talking about? You two are from Sylvarant.
Raine: …No. I happened to catch sight of this place when we rescued Colette and it’s been on my mind ever since. Then, when I heard the story about the two poles which connect the two worlds, I became certain. The images in my memory…the ruin I’ve been searching for all this time is this place.
Sheena: So what are you saying? The two of you were born in Tethe’alla?
Genis: It can’t be! All my memories are of Iselia! I don’t know this place at all.

Raine: …We were born and raised in the village of the elves, from which we were eventually ostracized. We were abandoned here because this place was said to be the path to the legendary Sylvarant.
Mithos: The village of the elves? The secret village said to be off-limits to anyone except elvenkind?
Raine: Yes. I don’t know the details of what happened, but I’m positive that I was left here along with Genis when he was just a newborn. And we eventually ended up in Sylvarant.

Kuchinawa: Then this time, let me send you to hell instead!

[Kuchinawa appears and totally wrecks the mood. He's accompanied by a group of Papal Knights, who surround the party.]

Lloyd: Who’s there?!
Sheena: Kuchinawa! What are you talking about?…
Kuchinawa: My chance to avenge my parents’ deaths has finally arrived.
Sheena: …Avenge your parents?
Kuchinawa: Correct. You will die for killing my parents along with countless others of our village when you failed to control Volt.
Sheena: …Wh…what?!
Lloyd: That was an accident! Why are you doing this now?

Kuchinawa: Accident?! I could have accepted things if she just failed to make a pact with a Summon Spirit. But then, she failed to assassinate the Chosen of Sylvarant, thereby placing Mizuho in danger. Yet look at her now. She’s made pacts with Summon Spirits just like that.
Colette: You have it all wrong!
Kuchinawa: Do I?! I think she wasn’t really trying during the first pact-making! Because of that, she killed my parents and our people.
Sheena: I did the best I could! I…
Kuchinawa: Enough excuses!

[Lloyd’s group fights some of the knights down. . .]

Lloyd: Damn, there’s too many of them!
Sheena: Kuchinawa! Please! Don’t drag them into this! I’m the one you despise, right? Then I’m the only one you need to kill!
Lloyd: Sheena, stop talking like that!
Sheena: It’s okay. Kuchinawa…please!
Kuchinawa: Fine.

[Except the Otherworldly Gate opens right then.]

Zelos: …You’ve got to be kiddin’ me! Enough of this, Sheena!

[Zelos grabs Sheena’s arm.]

Sheena: Ahh!
Zelos: Lloyd! Come on!
Lloyd: Everybody, into the gate!

[Everybody lands in Sylvarant, and the gate closes.]

Lloyd: Ahh!
Regal: …Where are we?
Raine: …Probably on the outskirts of Palmacosta.
Colette: We’re back in Sylvarant?
Genis: …The mana level seems to have risen, but it’s definitely Sylvarant.

Zelos: Phew, man, I never thought I’d wind up coming over to this side like that.
Sheena: Zelos, why did you butt in?!
Zelos: Excuse me? Don’t tell me you actually wanted to die back there.
Sheena: Well…
Zelos: Besides, those guys would have come after us regardless of whether or not you died. Pope’s orders and all.
Sheena: Are you saying Kuchinawa is working for the Pope?
Raine: It’s likely. Those assassins he had with him were the Pope’s men, aren’t they?
Regal: I’m certain of it.

Colette: …Sheena, please don’t do something like that again. Don’t make the same mistakes I did. Nothing good will come of you sacrificing your life.
Lloyd: Colette’s absolutely right. You should thank Zelos, Sheena.
Sheena: Th…thanks.
Zelos: Come on now, would it hurt you to give me a kiss or two?
Presea: …Zelos, you’re horrible.
Zelos: …Oh…ouch.

Mithos: But what are we gonna do now?
Lloyd: Well, since we’re back in Sylvarant, why don’t we find out what the Desians are up to?
Genis: What about Mithos? We can’t drag him into this.
Colette: Maybe we could ask the Palmacosta government to take care of him for a while.
Lloyd: Neil, huh? Hmm…I guess that’s a good idea.
Mithos: I wanna fight, too!
Genis: What are you saying? This journey is dangerous even if you had an Exsphere.
Raine: He’s right, Mithos. We do appreciate your sentiment, though.
Mithos: …I suppose you’re right. I understand.

+ When he takes this memory, Mithos may comment on that fact that this is one of his very few memories that has a similar feel and pace to his life in Aather, with a lot of heavy social interaction and multiple big events happening in the space of one single day.
+ Between this and the 'life with Altessa and Tabatha' memory he's almost completely regained the entire period between joining Lloyd's party and betraying it! Hmm.
+ Genuine worry for Raine; Genis feels; some Presea stuff and being able to place finding out about Presea's backstory; actual knowledge about the Otherwordly Gate and more understanding of how he shaped the divided world system and that Cruxis agents probably use that gate to travel; finding out Raine's issues; lol Heimdall lol; finding out Sheena's issues; lol Summon Spirits lol; lol self sacrifice lol; trying to stay with the party but getting defeated by logic.
+ This brings up some things about other people suffering the consequences of his actions and contains a lot of important party revelations, but a great deal of it is just traveling and talking, which is why it's trivial neutral.

* TENEBRAE STAHP

Won from Game 158: Dollmaking for the Masked Lady.

Martel and Mithos meet Tenebrae on their way in to see Ratatosk. Tenebrae is terrible and punny and terrible.

+ Personal knowledge of Tenebrae rather than just knowing him through Emil's memory.
+ Aversion to bad puns, jeez.

* Commissioning Tabatha.

Won from Game 159: Secret Santa for the Green Knight.

Some years before the events of Symphonia. Asking Altessa to make a robotic model of Martel and giving specifications for her appearance. The specifications include a decision to make her appear human, which he doesn't consciously think too hard about but is pretty telling: even if his plan is ultimately to erase race division from the worlds, he still has that fear, directed towards Martel, of slander for being a half-blood, so he erases the most obvious physical sign of her being one.

He attempts to install Martel's soul in the robot (using an extraction setup similar to the one used for Colette,) it fails, and he orders it scrapped, feeling angry hopelessness, disgust, and the tired ancient resolve to keep trying because he's been at it too long to stop now.

+ :(

* Tower of Salvation, first encounter.

Won from Game 161: Mira's introduction/healing retrieval.

Manga version here, though the memory follows the game version.

[Kratos has just finished turning on Lloyd's party, but hesitates re: striking Lloyd down; Yggdrasil appears on the scene.]

Yggdrasil: I guess not even you could bring yourself to fight against such an opponent…
Kratos: Lord Yggdrasil.
Genis: Who’s that?
Sheena: Another angel?!

Yggdrasil: Are you Lloyd?
Lloyd: Give me your name, and I’ll give you mine!
Yggdrasil: Haha…people need not introduce themselves to a dog.
Lloyd: What did you say?!
Yggdrasil: Fine, I shall tell you my name, wretched human. I am Yggdrasil. Leader of Cruxis…and the Desians!

[Lloyd's group fights Yggdrasil, who dispatches them easily; Yggdrasil also summons the Eternal Sword and uses its power to slam Lloyd into a pillar.]

Yggdrasill: Kratos, I trust you have no objections?
Kratos: …
Yggdrasill: (to Lloyd’s group) Farewell.

[Just as Yggdrasil is about to finish off the party, a shot is fired at him from the entrace of the room. It misses, but distracts him; Botta and some Renegades run in.]

Botta: Damn! The Chosen has already become an angel! We have no choice. We’re taking her back with us alive!

[Botta manages to transport himself and the party out of there, but Yggdrasil kills the other Renegade soldiers before they can escape.]

Yggdrasill: …Renegades…as irritating as ever. Still, it is of little consequence. Kratos, let us leave.
Kratos: As you wish…

[Yggdrasil teleports out.]

+ This is an actively cruel memory; there was legitimately no reason for Yggdrasil to appear here except to taunt/gloat over the party! "I am leader of Cruxis . . . and the Desians" is essentially saying the bad guys they were trying to get rid of and the divine forces they thought would help accomplish that were one and the same organization; it's saying that the group has just been used as pawns all along.
+ It's also lording it over Kratos, actually. LOOK KRATOS I'M GOING TO KILL YOUR SON NOW I TRUST YOU HAVE NO OBJECTIONS YES? like a total douchebag
+ Except for the killing Kratos's son part, this has a familiar feeling, so he'll be able to infer he's done it multiple times in the past: taking petty personal revenge on humans by telling Chosen's accompanying parties they've been working for nothing and then casually offing them.
+ Going to sit in a corner after taking this one for a while because it's one of those wow really seriously?! memories.

* Genis befriending him.

Won from Game 163: Conveying emotion for the Unicorn.

This memory follows the manga version, found here (until page 16.)

+ PARTYDERE? GENISDERE?
+ Mithos wasn't really able to appreciate the rest of the party talking the half-elf issue over in the memory (his train of thought there was probably liars liars liars), but he will in Aather.
+ Even though he had genuine friendship feelings for Genis, he was hiding something important and ultimately betrayed Genis along with the rest of the party, so their friendship was actually . . . kind of shallow compared to the longer-term relationships he's managed to build up in Aather. It didn't have the chance to become like those relationships! So this memory causes a kind of homesickness; actively wanting to go back to Aselia and build more lasting relationships with Genis and the rest of the party, and actually live life in their world with them.
